Suzy Glam was born
Suzy Glam was founded in 2013 by Etienne Frederiks and Susanne Klemm. Etienne started in the optical industry in 1990 as an optician. After being purchaser and product manager for a large optical chain in the Netherlands, he decided to start his own company. In 2005 he co-founded the Dutch optical fair Hall of Frames and in 2008 eyewear boutique Hall of Frame in Utrecht.
Susanne is a Swiss born designer and optician. She graduated in 1995 as a 3D-designer after her education at the Universities of Arts in Zurich and Utrecht. She then worked on her oeuvre of contemporary jewelry. With solo exhibitions she traveled the world from Tokyo to New York and in between. Knowing the optical world from her childhood in her father’s store and being a trained optician, it was a logical step to combine her skills with Etienne to start Suzy Glam.
Suzy Glam designs from scratch
Suzy Glam attaches great importance to a visual way of designing. Instead of starting from a drawing or a computer render, all models are primarily shaped by hand, then fitted and adjusted again. In this way, the design is literally formed on the face. Suzy Glam is convinced that this method gives a different result from designing in the more traditional two-dimensional way.
The three-dimensional approach to the design, combined with the superb fit, produces styles that are perfectly balanced as object and accessory. Although Suzy Glam recognizes the history of eyewear, she wants to go beyond ‘retro’ and create a collection suitable for a new generation of eyewear lovers.
Suzy Glam likes strong characters
Suzy Glam designs eyewear for women and for men. The female styles have a powerful presence with a strong feminine character. The distinctive eyewear for men is designed for confident men who do not shy away from glamour; individualists who dare to show themselves.
